Welcome to the website of The Memphis Goldsmith Group.
Joel Goldsmith was an American mystic. He was a nationally known Christian Science Practitioner with a large healing ministry before his first book The Infinite Way was published in l947. His book attracted those seeking a more mystical way of life, and his healing work shifted from metaphysics to mysticism. Joel emphasized the universality of the mystical experience, using the Bible and also the works of Buddha, Shankara, Yogananda and other Eastern mystics. He introduced meditation as a means to experience mystical union. Eventually he spent the greater part of his time traveling around the world by invitation, sharing insights and revelations as they came to him. Most of his lectures have been recorded and many of his books are based on these lectures.
Joel was very clear that he was not founding another church or creating any organization whatsoever. There is nothing to join and no dues to pay in The Infinite Way. The two parts of the teaching are meditation and the principles based on the teachings of Christ Jesus. In his books Joel tells us he is simply sharing what is given him in meditation. And this is the model Infinite Way students follow. The students study, work with Bible passages, The Infinite Way wisdoms or Joel’s books and tapes and then go into meditation to commune with God. The goal is the revealing of God within you. Reading, studying and listening to the lectures give us the inspiration that lifts us out of the everyday human consciousness into the mind that was in Christ Jesus [Philippians 2:5]. We close our eyes to the world and sit quietly in meditation. In the practice of daily listening for “the still small voice” [1 Kings 19:12], we find a new way of being – in the world but not of it [John 17:15-16]. We come to experience a peace, joy and harmony within that is not dependent on what is going on around us. This relationship with God can only be realized within us. So you see why Joel felt no organization or new church was needed.
